Day 779
(Technically: 926)
First Run kicked off last night with two blocks of films, including fellow classmate from Yemane's Advanced Production Workshop, Ginny Mohler and her short film "THE ADVENTURES OF GORDON & GRACE." It's almost hard to believe that's it been two years since we shot our projects. Now they're finally ready to screen!
Tonight at 8:30pm, be sure to watch for "Lifted" by Zachary Goldberg, and, especially, "Knee High" by Alexandra Naides!
Tomorrow, we have another Yemane alum, Andrew Cannizzaro, and his film "A Girl and Her Guardian" at 12:30pm, which features animation by both myself and Eric Pato. And don't forget: "NYZ" tomorrow at 4:30pm!

Day 469
(Technically: 616)
ZOMBIE NEWS UPDATE:
Center for Disease Control are out to spread awareness of a possible zombie apocalypse! Finally!
Perhaps it has something to do with the supposed "End of the World" on Saturday? Will the undead rise up in one of the greatest zombie uprisings since Lazarus? Only time will tell.
(Oh, and 616 is the real number of the beast.)

Day 465
(Technically: 612)
Today I think we've finished editing NYZ! I'll have to go through it once more just to be sure, but I think we are now picture-locked!
"What's the next step?" you may ask. "Surely that means you're finished, right?" No, not yet. But the hardest part is over.
Now all that remains is sound editing, designing, and mixing, music, visual effects, titles, and color correction. Then, we will be completely done and ready to send it out to festivals. At which point, we'll let you know where it's playing and hopefully there will be a place near you where you can come and see it in its full-fledged glory!

Day 385
(Technically: 532)
The snow is thawing in New York City, and we're gearing up to do a few pick-up shots to smoothen out transitions between scenes and montages. Once these are done, we will be officially picture-locked! Then begins the intense sound design stage. Admittedly a little behind schedule, but I think it will be well-worth the wait!
The "New York I EAT You" trailer for NYZ has gotten 300 views on Vimeo! If you haven't seen it, check it out below:

Day 285
(Technically: 431)
88 Days ago I was in Seattle, where I screened Kiss Me, I'm English and a rough cut of NYZ to a bunch of video students at Ballard High School, where we discussed them and talked about how I can change my latest cut to make it better. It's come a long way since then.
But also while I was there, so was Gary Davis, who runs the local Artscacpe feature on KPLU and he was doing a piece about Ballard filmmakers, capturing our post-screening discussion and critique of my film and even interviews with current BHS students in an article called "Following Aristotle: Ballard High's Filmmakers."
Listen to the audio highlights and read the full article on the KPLU Artscape website!

Day 277
(Technically: 423)
Work has been put on hold momentarily while I've been freelancing and looking for jobs. Also looking for a composer for a Harry Nilsson-type song.
Like this.
Last night at the New Visions and Voices Film Festival, Zachary Poots received an award for Production Design on Kiss Me, I'm English!
Congratulations, Zach!
Check out a short preview of Kiss Me, I'm English on Vimeo!

Day 197
(Technically: 341)
28 Weeks Later
We have a rough cut of "NYZ" assembled. I've just been doing it myself for now, and will be looking for an editor to come along and actually do a proper edit, since as the director I am a little attached to it and could use an objective pair of eyes to help.
I've been in Seattle for a week for a little break, and I got the chance to visit my old high school today to stop by and screened the rough cut to the high school kids in the video program. Got some good feedback, and we had a very thorough discussion afterward where the students offered some great notes on how to make it better. We'll most likely be doing some a pick-up shoot sometime soon to fix a few continuity problems as well as a way to improve transitions between scenes and adding to the storyline.
Speaking of things that won't die...
I know vampires suck, but really...? Do we really need this?

Day 80
The First Day of Filming.
We just finished our first day of shooting! "NYZ" is now officially in-production!
Check out the first official picture, featuring Jim and Morgan at Stuyvesant Square:

After a lot of running around this morning, going to Budget Truck Rentals, Hand Held Films, Inc., and then to Tisch to pick up the rig.
Special thanks to Rockwell's for providing today's burgers and wings! And thanks to Alexis for picking it up! And Catrin, our first zombie:
Tomorrow we shoot in Washington Square Park! Day Two!
In other related Zombie News...
A great video on how to deal with the guy who's clearly hiding a zombie bite.

Day 78
(Technically: 223)
Meetings, meetings, meetings. After work, I went over to Mudd Coffee to meet with Alex, who has agreed to be our primary zombie! He was a supporting actor on Eric's Color Sync, along with Mark, who is going to be a cop interrogating him.
After that, met with Richard, where we went over the shot list and talked equipment rentals. I have to call Hand Held tomorrow to rearrange our quotes.
Just got out of a production meeting with Eric, Sam, and Richard, where we finalized the schedule.
One day left.

Speaking of the walking dead: today marks the 23rd anniversary of "The Simpsons."

Day 73
(Technically: 218)
One week to go before shooting begins...
Two weeks before we wrap.
Went out to location, but still the owner was unconvinced, wanting a security deposit. While not an unreasonable request, it's still another hoop to jump through.
A flaming hoop.
Of fire.
Went to Tick Tock Diner to meet with Mark, whom I've worked with on Eric's old Color Sync, who's agreed to appear as a good cop in NYZ. Awesome!
Talked to Christina, member of the Council of the Wise (aka the Production Supervision Committee), who said that she's still working on getting my project approved in the next few days so that we can file for insurance.
Decided to join my friends in the park for an impromptu game of Frisbee to relax a bit, with a few more leads on apartments coming through on wireless cellular telephonic communiques.
Then went to Tisch to meet with Monica to discuss props and production design. Things are going well from the art standpoint. Tomorrow: makeup test again! Yay!
Need to book Budget Truck for next week. Fortunately, NYU just worked out a deal with Budget to give students discounts on renting their cargo vans, which should make things a bit easier.
And now for more Zombie News:
Zombies a la Stephen Colbert.

Day 67
Of our NYZ 28 Days Countdown. ...Why does the day exceed the aforementioned 28 days?
Well, good question, I would say to you, hypothetical inquisitor. We were originally going to start shooting during the last weekend of February, ending on the 28th day of the month, hence the 28-day countdown (and no other reason...my lawyers have advised to officially state that I have never heard of any film or film franchise that revolves around 28 days or something like that).
However, due to circumstances beyond my control--namely, a goddamned blizzard--we were forced to reschedule for April, mere weeks before graduation. A bold move, some may say. Others may say it a ridiculous one, placing our six-day shoot of epic epicness (also my lawyers have advised me to state that I have never heard that saying before) right before final exams and such. Pf-shah!

Day 65
(Technically: Day 210)
Had a late start to the day. Just worked on projects, though gave up after a while to sit in the park on the gorgeous sunny day. Though it wasn't so sunny by the time we got there, which didn't bother me much because it meant I got to retain my undead skin tone.
